Arthur was reared in an orphanage and spent most of his adult life in a city hostel that he called home. He was responsible there for ringing the bell for prayers.
He was a simple man whose whole life revolved around the hostel and soccer. All attempts to place him in other accommodation failed.
Severe loss of weight and poor health led to his referral to hospital. Staff there, were unable to understand why he could not rest. In spite of numerous assessments only anaemia and chest inflammation were diagnosed.
Our concern led to TRUST insisting that he be readmitted and seen again by a specialist. It required threatening to make contact with the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board and the Minister for Health to ensure his readmission to hospital. Shortly afterwards he died of cancer.
